“I did all the right things, now what”?

Almost every job seeker can identify with this statement at some time during their job search. While this can be a frustrating feeling, it actually can be an indication that you are making your job search a priority.

The truth is, you can do all the right things and still receive no response. This does not mean you are not giving your job search your best efforts. What it does tell you it to keep moving and maintain your momentum.

Often, you have a positive reception from the potential employer, and it seems the interview is moving in the right direction with all kinds of accolades indicating that you are The Candidate for the position.

On your way home from the interview you’re filled with excitement and encouragement. Then, you hear nothing. Days and weeks can pass with little or no communication, even after you send in your thank-you notes and make follow-up calls.

You’re left with questions and concerns that can make you to start analyzing what you could have done better. You blame the lack of response on yourself, and start looking for ways you can change or improve. Blaming it on yourself is easier than simply not knowing what went wrong, right?

What should you do? It’s simple. You keep moving ahead.

Particularly now, since the job market is somewhat unstable, you must not stop your job search and wait on a particular employer to come through with an offer. Even after you have done all the right things, keep searching for job opportunities until an offer is on the table and signed.

In reality you are in a job search until you have an offer and have started your new job.
