In my last post, I started discussing the variety of interview types, and ways you can be prepared for each one.

Why should you care? The better prepared you are for an interview, the better impression you are going to make. And, of course, the better the impression you make, the better your chances of moving ahead in the hiring process.

Refer to my last post for information about screening interviews and initial interviews. And now, here are more interview types.

Interview with the decision maker

This interview takes place with the person who decides if you’ll be hired. This can be your direct report or his/her boss. It is important to keep in mind that you would have not progress this far in the interview process if you did not have the qualifications needed. At this level, they want to know if you will fit into their organization.

Group Interviews

Group interviews are common depending on the culture of the organization/company. Some companies want everyone’s input into how well you will work as a part of the team. In a group interview, you will be asked questions from several group members. The questions may be skill-related topics, technical in nature or focused on soft skills and personality. The group interview provides an even more objective view of why you should be hired.

Interviews with staff and colleagues

This interview is designed so you can meet and visit with your colleagues and the staff. The questions you will be asked will vary based on who is in the meeting and their role in the company. For example, if you are meeting the engineering group, you will probably be asked technical questions related to engineering.

This is an excellent time for you to ask questions, so you will need to develop a good list. Make sure you have a variety of questions, so you do ask the same question of every person you meet.
